the plot thickens

yesterday, an article with tom marshall, phish's longtime lyricist, confirmed that the phish reunion is not just a figment of our imagination, it IS def looming in the not super far off distant future. woah.

on a slightly related note, trey and "classic TAB" just got added to All Points West fest, August 8-10, the east coast's sister festival to the west coasts Outside Lands fest happening in Golden Gate Park August 22-24. i'm guessing "classic TAB" implies horns and lots of peeps on stage VS. the two acoustic gigs already lined up for summer. wow.

i'm excited for trey to be getting back out there. i am.

runaway trey

an email arrived yesterday with some pretty big news: trey was added to the rothbury lineup. he'll be doing an acoustic set. his first "full" show back since dec 06. that's so rad. i'm so excited for trey and the people who will be at rothbury. i know i've been pretty outwardly (what i call) "grumpy" about the way things have unfolded the last few/several years regarding trey/phish, but i'm ready to swing in the other direction. i'm NOT totally ready for the big phat looming phish reunion, but that's on me, i guess. i AM very excited to hear trey play. i really am. i'm sorta nervous, too. these shots are from the late night phil & friends show from vegoose in '06. many thanks to jeff kravitz for capturing this night i will never forget.

and the title to my post is just 'cuz i am listening to a pretty memorable show from 11.12.94. kent state. it had a fun runaway jim opener. and i'm just goofing around, per usual...okay, i'll admit it (again), i've got a hankering to hear trey shred!!! fingers crossed that lots of positive energy will be flowing to, from, with and around trey on his journey back to the land of rock and roll*

phish: unfinished helping friendly book

it seems the script is still being written for phish.

they each showed up at the jammy's the other night in NYC to receive the lifetime achievement award. the speculation of a musical reunion that night was high. alas, that moment when those four tap into the musical cosmos together is still looming.

most of my friends know how grumpy i am about the idea of a phish reunion. but i may have just turned a corner. i really wanna hear trey play. and yeah, i'll settle for any of the incarnations that he comes up with, i guess. i am finally thinking about thinking about being almost maybe sorta kinda ready for a phish reunion.

i'm lucky. i found something special (for me) to sink my teeth into almost immediately after phish's last performance, 8.15.04. my first ryan adams show was at the warfield, 9.22.04. after the coventry disaster, i was swept away by a new muse: ryan adams. i consider that one to have been ridiculously exceptional karma on my part.

since, i've even heard trey play ryan's songs (first time was the beacon, 2.12.06 with phil and friends). talk about WOW. major worlds colliding.

so with the announcement of trey's first full appearance in 17 months at the Newport Folk Festival in august, well, i got inspired to post about my jones to hear trey play.

completely unrelated, this is a very busy week of shows, with the last five nights of performances at the warfield as we know it. maybe i'll get inspired to do some reviews of the gigs.

in the meantime, here is trey's acceptance speech from the jammy's. photo cred to jeff kravitz for the shot up above.
