phish: unfinished helping friendly book

it seems the script is still being written for phish.

they each showed up at the jammy's the other night in NYC to receive the lifetime achievement award. the speculation of a musical reunion that night was high. alas, that moment when those four tap into the musical cosmos together is still looming.

most of my friends know how grumpy i am about the idea of a phish reunion. but i may have just turned a corner. i really wanna hear trey play. and yeah, i'll settle for any of the incarnations that he comes up with, i guess. i am finally thinking about thinking about being almost maybe sorta kinda ready for a phish reunion.

i'm lucky. i found something special (for me) to sink my teeth into almost immediately after phish's last performance, 8.15.04. my first ryan adams show was at the warfield, 9.22.04. after the coventry disaster, i was swept away by a new muse: ryan adams. i consider that one to have been ridiculously exceptional karma on my part.

since, i've even heard trey play ryan's songs (first time was the beacon, 2.12.06 with phil and friends). talk about WOW. major worlds colliding.

so with the announcement of trey's first full appearance in 17 months at the Newport Folk Festival in august, well, i got inspired to post about my jones to hear trey play.

completely unrelated, this is a very busy week of shows, with the last five nights of performances at the warfield as we know it. maybe i'll get inspired to do some reviews of the gigs.

in the meantime, here is trey's acceptance speech from the jammy's. photo cred to jeff kravitz for the shot up above.

For Neil Young Fans

in my little sidebar, you'll see a bunch of my favorite websites. one, in particular, keeps me super keen with insightful new music industry stuff. i'm always intrigued by Bob Lefsetz's perspective; sometimes he is talking shit about big shots at record labels, sometimes he talks about how good the snow was in vail (yawn), but his latest entry zeroed in on something pretty seemingly epic: neil young's archives being available on blu-ray. here's a link to the site that has a vid of the press conference. i'm not even half-way thru watching it, but had to start this post, because this seems pretty wild. and honest, i'm glad bob talks about his skiing, even if i could care less. i feel like it gives me permission to write about stuff here just cuz.
i really don't know what i am doing here. this pic is from 2002 bridge school benefit: thom yorke, ryan adams, james taylor, neil young. of course, shot by jay blakesberg

hurry (i think)!

found an MP3 version of the prince coachella show that had me dumbfounded the other night. not sure how long these links will last so get them while you can!!!
disc 1
disc 2
major props to noah b. for calling out the creep cover miles before anyone else realized what was going on. could. not. believe. it.

touch me i'm going to scream pt. 2

this one My Morning Jacket song that i first heard during that live broadcast of the SXSW show back in march has been on constant rewind. i was so stoked when they started playing this at coachella. little did i know that it was going to be the last song, but i know why they closed with it. because it is EFFIN incredible!!!

i was trying to post just the audio but i'm apparently not as geeky as i should be at the moment. so i'm using this youtube vid to do my dirty work. i seriously love this song. thank you for existing, MMJ!!!

ryan adams music

i can't comprehend a bigger impact on my musical trajectory than ryan adams.
i'm so happy to be able to share this outrageous phenomenon of an artist. imagine, if we really all went out on the skinny branches? would we have a critical mass, or reach a tipping point?
as always, major props to jay blakesberg for the snapshot from the berkeley summer cardinals show, 7/24/07 from the berkeley community theater (BCT). i'll work on learning how to embed this next. but for now, click on that link and you can stream that show. i feel like such a geek.
wow.
