...the wind blows high...

a favorite version of a song (Divided Sky by Phish) from one of my most favorite shows (10.31.94) EVER! i credit the camera person, because i will tell you for certain, there was absolutely no possible way i could have handled any kind of responsibility that night, like videoing the show. THANK YOU, kind person who captured this incredible memory for me!

simple minds

i may have watched this movie more times than any other movie to date. haven't seen it in probably over ten years (i don't have a TV so i miss the reruns), did a google search on "simple minds" (cuz a friend recently reminded me of that song "don't you forget about me") and i got vortexed in this trailer. like a trip down memory lane. thought i'd share it here. just cuz.

Shine A Light, #2

"underwhelmed" was the word i used to describe seeing the martin scorcese rolling stones concert movie, shine a light. bummer! i was looking forward to this, then couldn't wait til it was over. honest, though, i can't imagine doing what those guys are doing for as long as they have. i really respect that they can still rock. i think the trailer is all you need to see, unfortunately. oh well!!! here for first post about this from january

check out this related, hilarious improv song from ryan adams and the cardinals 10.25.07 columbus ohio show (listen to the whole epic show here)

PEACE WALK FOR BURMA APRIL 9

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." Martin Luther King, Jr.

Tonight, my magic carpet took me to Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Marin County, where Jack Kornfield led us in meditation. He then gave a refreshing and inspiring talk about spring and planting seeds, constantly bringing the focus back to how our simple, sometimes small actions, have far and wide affects. I was deeply touched, moved, and humbled at Spirit Rock tonight.

All the proceeds of this March 31 Monday night meditation, were being donated to Tibetan Center For Human Rights and Democracy, www.tchrd.org

As a result of tonight, I decided to participate in the April 9 PEACE WALK FOR BURMA which coincides with the only North American city to relay the Olympic torch. Details are available with this link: here

I've never walked across the Golden Gate Bridge and I can't think of a better reason to do it than to express disapproval peacefully for what is happening so far from our little oasis of Northern California.

The Edge

tonight, a friend rang me twenty minutes before the next showing of the IMAX movie U2 3D. i'd been wanting to check it out, was totally mellow at home, and thought, WHY NOT?

so we got our 3D glasses and in we went to the theater. i don't think i'd seen an IMAX movie since...?high school? when IMAX theaters first came out. seriously. so i was pretty excited. and WOW.

i'd seen U2 in real life one single time (2 1/2 years ago or so). i was actually kinda disappointed with the show. i dunno. just seemed like a lot of smoke in mirrors or something. i had heard that i def did not catch an "ON" night, so i let it slide. seemed like lots of effort to catch their shows, so i just kinda didn't really get into it (whew, one less band i have to schedule around~ ha!).

but this movie~ holy shit!!! the one thing more than anything i came away from it with is how utterly and incredibly impressive The Edge is. his poise was so attractive and his sound was whole and complete.

so yeah, if you are on the fence about seeing this movie, U2 3D, or needed someone to directly tell ya to peep it, do it!!!

Pineapple

i bought an organic pineapple at traders joes the other day, simply because it was organic and it was trader joes, which in my mind, implied that it was a good price (i have no idea how much organic pineapples are anywhere).

it was like $3.69 or something. def under $4. it had been awhile since i'd bought a whole pineapple. i didn't remember how i was supposed to prep it. so i did what anyone would do: i googled it. i did find some interesting things that i'll end this post with, but before i do that, i MUST launch into how INCREDIBLE this frickin' pineapple was. WOW! totally underrated fruit. cheap thrill all the way!!! that said, here's the boring part, that is actually quite uplifting, cuz the thing was SOSOSO delicious.

some interesting tidbits about pineapple:

"Want to give your body a boost in health and healing? Then you may want to add some fresh pineapple and pineapple juice to your diet. Pineapples are nutritionally packed members of the bromeliad family. This delightful tropical fruit is high in the enzyme bromelain and the antioxidant vitamin C, both of which plays a major role in the body's healing process.

Bromelain is a natural anti-inflammatory that has many health benefits and encourages healing. According to Dr. Andrew Weil, bromelain is very effective in treating bruises, sprains and strains by reducing swelling, tenderness and pain. This powerful anti-inflammatory effect can also help relieve rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and reduce postoperative swelling. Additionally, the bromelain contained in fresh pineapple can relieve indigestion. This enzyme helps break down the amino acid bonds in proteins, which promotes good digestion."

new paradigm

what strikes me the most about these "millenials", of which i am not one of, but rather sorta kinda on the cusp of, is that most of these women, well, rewind 20-30 years ago, and at their age, they'd be popping out babies, being wives.

its 2008. we all know that 40 is the new 30, women are having babies older and older...

so, its not really that these kids are telling us something new. its not really a newsflash that women can multi-task, because women have been multi-tasking forever. cooking cleaning working working out sleeping (maybe). its just that the variety of things which are being juggled is different.

i dunno.

since i am on the cusp, i think i am most curious or caught in between the realities of both situations. maybe not really "caught" but more like, curious.
